Longest serving male inmates by state

To the extent it can be determined, the longest-serving inmate in the United States appears to be Francis Clifford Smith, of Connecticut. Smith, 87, has been imprisoned for 62 years and one month.

He is serving life without the possibility of parole for murder, and is currently housed at the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, Conn.

However, two states, Louisiana and Virginia – did not respond to repeated public information requests by the Republic.
